Harvest Moon®: Echoes of Teradea Animal companions and what they can do
Last updated 2026-10-18. Checked against the sources below.
Animal companions help with travel, recovery, and hostile wildlife. The whistle holds four rideable animals, and skills improve through use or boarding. Some wild animals threaten you; this does not mean every wild species attacks.
Animals a source names
| Animal | How you get it | Known use |
|---|---|---|
| Horse | Given at the start. More horses are in shops | Travel. Silver Dapple has Bunny Jump |
| Dog, cat | Shops | Pets. Skills come from use and from boarding |
| Wolf, camel, reindeer | Wild-animal companions described by the checked guides | Camel crosses sand rivers; reindeer handles ice. Skill and terrain requirements still apply |
| Cockatiel | West bridge in Bloomfield. Pet once, then board for the tutorial | Companion tutorial. Richard’s separate 3 River Bug request unlocks his bird’s Perch storage access |
| Sheep | 2100 G | Wool for fabric. Valais Blacknose wool is the high-quality cloth |

Boarding and the chapter 1 bird
The Animal Center boards a pet for 0 G in the cockatiel example, and boarding is where skill points accrue. Betty’s services open after that first bird. Her later letter asks you to bring a pet that already has an animal skill. Fritz’s letter asks for a horse that can jump a white fence. Those are the two “use your animals” checks Bloomfield chapter 1 leaves you with.
Source checks
I merged RPGamer’s mount paragraph with fogu’s cockatiel steps and Video Chums’ whistle note. The whistle has four slots; a speed horse, a jump horse, a camel, and a reindeer are the guide’s suggested loadout, not four locked slot categories. I do not have a bestiary, so the table stops at animals a source names.
Questions this page answers
How many mounts can you keep on the whistle?
Four slots. A speed horse, jump horse, camel, and reindeer are a suggested loadout, not fixed slot categories.
Are wild animals dangerous?
Some are. The official description names wolves, bears, and tigers. Sneaking, food, and companion abilities can help; being caught can cost carried items and return you to the farm.
